Best intentions are just that. The best we can do. Sometimes I have to settle for less than perfect. In the big picture that is not a bad thing. Most times it is the only way I can maintain my sanity.
I intended to publish these trousers at the end of July.
I intended to sew several garments while visiting mum.
I intended to not spend anything for a month.
You guessed it. I didn’t achieve any of these things.
However, I did
Publish the trousers pattern the following week.
Buy a new sewing machine and have it delivered to mum’s house for next time.
Buy a wonderful hand held clothes steamer so I can look my best at any time :)
Life would be a drag if there wasn’t a little bit of stress.
The pattern
Today’s pattern is part of an outfit that I have put together.
The outfit consists of:
Trousers
Turtleneck
Vest
Today I am including the link to the wide leg trousers pattern for paid subscribers. They have a flat front and a gathered back.
You have to tape the pattern pieces together for each leg piece.
It’s best to crease the folds for the casing and the front waist first thing. I usually finger press them down using the lines on the pattern pieces and press them after.
For the pants hems I have allowed for a 1/4” double fold hem. I have found that pressing over the first fold only then folding the second fold as I sew works best. It’s easier to get an even second fold if you turn as you sew rather than trying to get it even under the iron.
On the green trousers I used my pinking shears for all the edges, even the casing edge. On the red trousers I left my pinking shears at mum’s by mistake so I didn’t do any seam neatening. In the past I would overlock everything but generally I give away my samples so a few with rough seams doesn’t bother me. I don’t recommend leaving them rough if the garment gets a lot of use.

Coming in August
As soon as I complete the instruction files for the rest of the outfit I will schedule the posts. If all goes to plan they will go out in August. I have different garments for September’s outfit so I am trying to keep on track.
A cute story
I developed a story for the ruffle cuffs and bow neck tie outfit and now I have one for the trousers, turtleneck and vest outfit. I put some details into Chat GPT and ask it to create a story in a particular style. The latest one is Rachel going to the Science Fair at her school. She did her presentation on earth worms.
I am still playing with the formatting and format for the stories but I hope to get the science fair one out in August to complete the August outfit.
