One of my favourite things about summer doll clothes is creating designs that are pretty, practical and enjoyable to sew — and this little Summer Strappy Dress is exactly that.
It’s a pull-on design with elastic straps and an elastic back, so there are no buttons or velcro to fuss with. That makes it a lovely relaxed sewing project and an easy dress for little hands to use too.
The pattern includes:

I designed this as part of my Summer Capsule collection. It looks good with a cardigan over it or a t-shirt under it.
It fits the 18” American Girl doll and Our Generation doll, the 20” Australian Girl doll and the 17” Baby Born doll.
I’m thinking of using a light batiste or lawn to make a nightie or shorter to make a camisole. I might try making the straps with 1/8” elastic and cutting the straps a bit narrower to make it look more like underwear.
If you feel like sewing something light, cheerful and satisfying, this might be the perfect weekend project.
